Hilton forecasts shorter getaways and more purposeful vacations by 2027.

Insights from the Hilton 2027 Travel Trends Report

Travel Focus Shift
In 2027, travellers are expected to prioritize personal wellbeing and growth over the quest for the “perfect trip.” A recent Hilton report reveals that 54% of respondents feel pressured to create ideal travel experiences, while many are willing to compromise for others’ happiness. The focus will shift to more meaningful, less performative vacations.

The Rise of the “Ish”
Travellers are beginning to define travel on their own terms. This trend highlights a move away from curated perfection towards journeys that resonate personally. Chris Nassetta, Hilton’s CEO, emphasizes this growing preference for unique travel experiences. Notably, 31% of solo travellers still connect with friends and family during trips, reflecting a trend towards blended vacations.

Micro-Travel Mindset
With time being a precious resource, shorter trips are gaining acceptance. Travellers are opting for more frequent, brief getaways instead of waiting for the ideal occasion for longer trips. This “micro-travel” approach allows for easier planning and fitting into hectic lives. However, 67% of respondents still feel the “fear of missing out” (FOMO) and want to make the most of their short getaways.

Travel Trust Equation
While travellers increasingly use AI to plan trips, trust in human advice remains crucial. The report shows a preference for recommendations from trusted sources, with travelers valuing motherly advice, hotel staff knowledge, and loyalty status. Interestingly, 29% of travelers compete for better loyalty recognition with their peers.

Growth Getaways
Travel now serves as a catalyst for personal growth. Over 76% of travellers report that merely booking a trip gives them a sense of purpose, while 42% discover new passions while on holiday. Notably, Gen Z shows a strong inclination to pursue hobbies inspired by their travels.

Wellness Rewired
The desire to recharge mentally and physically shapes contemporary travel. About 65% of respondents are in search of experiences that promote relaxation, with 76% acknowledging that travel offers a retreat they can’t replicate at home. Fresh air and outdoor activities are vital, as 79% of respondents affirm they embrace nature more when travelling.

These insights highlight a significant shift towards a more personalized and meaningful travel experience in 2027, emphasizing growth, wellness, and authentic connections over the traditional aspects of travel planning.
