The all-new Geely EX5 was unveiled in China, featuring a spacious front trunk (frunk) set for launch on September 21. Originally applied for a domestic sales license as the Geely Galaxy E5, it boasts a rear axle electric motor offering 245 kW (329 hp) and includes a roof-mounted LiDAR system.
Recent photos shared by an enthusiasts showcase the large frunk, with a maximum load inscription of 50 kg. The smaller Geely E2 (EX2) offers a 70-liter front trunk for comparison.
There’s a growing trend among Chinese manufacturers to incorporate larger front trunks in EVs, and the EX5 is no exception. The vehicle indicates significant structural updates, including a shift to a rear-wheel-drive layout, as suggested by the relocation of the charging port from the front fender to the rear.
The EX5 features a single TZ184QY301 electric motor, now delivering 245 kW (329 hp), a notable increase of 114 hp over its predecessor. Its top speed also increases from 175 km/h to 201 km/h, powered by an undisclosed capacity LFP battery. With dimensions of 4636/1920/1670 mm and a wheelbase of 2750 mm, the updated model is 21 mm longer than before.
Updates extend to aesthetics, with new bumpers, semi-hidden door handles, and enhanced driving technologies. The EX5 incorporates the G-ASD G-Pilot H5 assisted driving system, offering features like Navigate On Autopilot (NOA). Side cameras on front fenders and a roof-integrated camera further enhance its capabilities.
According to Shan Aifu, head of PR for Geely Galaxy, while the styling has not changed significantly, the car has undergone extensive upgrades in structure, components, and electronic systems. It is set to enter the Chinese market in September 2026.
The Geely EX5 delivered 40,776 units from January to August 2026, a 45.9% decline year-over-year, indicating the need for this upgrade. It remains a flagship model for Geely in international markets.
