The launch of the BBC’s Celebrity Traitors has garnered significant attention, attracting 8.9 million viewers for its premiere episode. The show, filled with drama and quirky comedy, has broken records for viewership compared to both its celebrity and civilian versions. The 75-minute opener peaked at over 9 million viewers, a substantial increase from last year’s season launch, which had 3 million fewer viewers.
With nearly 55% of the TV audience tuning in to last night’s episode, it became the second most-watched TV episode of the year, following only the final episode of the civilian Traitors in January. The companion show, Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, also performed well, drawing in 3 million viewers.
The second season airs every Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m. GMT, featuring a diverse cast including Jerry Hall, Richard E. Grant, and Myha’la, among others. Anticipation for the show’s return has been high, supported by extensive promotion during other BBC programs. The success of Celebrity Traitors solidifies its position as one of the BBC’s leading entertainment programs, with a fifth season of the civilian version set to debut early next year. In the U.S., a successful version is being aired on Peacock, hosted by Alan Cumming.
Celebrity Traitors is produced by Studio Lambert.
