Rancho Cordova Planning Commission Greenlights New 28-Acre Entertainment Project

The planning commission in Rancho Cordova has taken a significant step forward in developing a new entertainment district called DOVA (Downtown Cordova), aimed at transforming a vacant 28-acre business park into a vibrant hub featuring an arena, hotels, restaurants, and other venues. The unanimous approval during a crowded meeting reflects a mix of enthusiasm and skepticism among residents.

Many community members believe DOVA could provide the city with a much-needed central gathering place that would enhance its identity. Some voiced concerns about the speed of the decision-making process, urging for more thorough consideration of potential impacts, particularly regarding financial risks for taxpayers and the long-term effects on the community.

City officials assured residents that financial structures are rooted in previous agreements and that the project has been in the planning stages for several years. Although the planning commission’s meeting focused on the proposal itself, any financial agreements will be finalized by the Rancho Cordova City Council.

Despite differing opinions, a shared desire for a true downtown area was evident among residents, indicating a broad interest in enhancing the city’s appeal through this new development.
