Oracle pledges $300 million to alleviate high energy expenses at Point Beach

Oracle is set to purchase electricity from the Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Wisconsin to secure reliable, carbon-free power for the state’s utilities. This move is projected to save local utility customers nearly $300 million in fuel costs and support the nuclear plant’s continued operation. Oracle’s executive vice president, Mahesh Thiagarajan, emphasized the benefit for over a million customers and the importance of this investment in Wisconsin’s future.

The deal is subject to approval by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin and follows a recent 20-year agreement by We Energies to buy electricity from Point Beach to lower customer fuel costs. The plant has faced rising energy costs, prompting the utility consumer advocate group to welcome Oracle’s commitment.

Additionally, Oracle’s initiative aligns with its Project Lighthouse, a data center project in Port Washington expected to boost the local economy significantly while addressing increasing electricity demand from new data centers in the region. If approved, this partnership will further entrench Oracle into Wisconsin’s energy landscape amidst a projected 40% increase in peak electricity demand over the next five years.
