Grain Silo Receives Mural Makeover in Eastern Montana

100-Year-Old Grain Silo Transformed with Mural to Boost Arts in Glendive, Montana

Art has long been a part of Montana’s identity, and community leaders in Glendive are enhancing that legacy with a vibrant mural on their century-old grain silo, aiming to foster local culture and arts.

Mural Project Overview
The massive mural, created by Bozeman artist Griffin Foster, is designed to transform the GTA grain elevator, making it a striking landmark for travelers. Foster’s inspiration stemmed from his experiences in eastern Montana, including participation in local branding events and firsthand encounters with the agricultural landscape.

Community and Economic Impact
Jaime Shanks of the Eastern Plains Economic Development Corporation explained that the mural project was funded by a grant from the Montana Department of Commerce, with the intention of drawing tourists off the interstate and into the heart of Glendive.

Shanks emphasized that while tourism is a key focus, the mural also serves to increase visibility for arts and culture in the region, which historically lacks such offerings.

Future Aspirations
The hope is for Glendive to cultivate a thriving arts scene akin to those found in other parts of Montana, turning the mural into a catalyst for creative expression.

As the mural nears completion—expected by mid-October, weather permitting—the community envisions a brighter future filled with artistic opportunity.
