“Cultural Iran” Book Series Sparks Innovative Blend of Music, Calligraphy, and Film

Multidisciplinary Art Project Inspired by Iran’s Cultural Heritage

Overview
Iranian composer and ney player Hamed Mokhtarani is collaborating with Professor Dariush Farhud, a pioneer in genetics, on an artistic project inspired by the 15-volume “Cultural Iran” book collection. This initiative aims to translate the cultural and historical insights of the collection into orchestral music, calligraphy, and cinematic visuals.

About the Cultural Iran Project
Initiated in May 2007 under Farhud’s guidance, the “Cultural Iran” project encompasses nearly two decades of research, resulting in 15 volumes covering various aspects of Iran’s history, art, culture, and literature. Designed to make Iranian heritage accessible to a broad audience, the collection offers a comprehensive yet approachable look at Iranian culture.

Mokhtarani’s Musical Interpretation
Mokhtarani has extensively researched the volumes and is developing an orchestral composition that reflects the overarching themes of the collection rather than directly narrating its content. This musical piece aims to bridge cultural gaps through nonverbal artistic expression, ultimately set to be the official music of “Cultural Iran.”

Visual Components
The project includes a unique calligraphy performance where Mokhtarani will render the word “CULTURE” alongside selected Persian literary texts at a significant historical site in Iran. This will be coupled with a multimedia film that merges the performances into a coherent visual narrative.

Final Presentation
The culmination of this collaboration will involve a ceremony unveiling the musical work, calligraphy, and film, coinciding with the presentation of the “Cultural Iran” collection. Following the unveiling, the works will be made available through various media platforms both locally and internationally.

Conclusion
This project synergizes Farhud’s extensive research with Mokhtarani’s innovative artistic expression, aiming to present the richness of Iran’s cultural heritage through a contemporary lens.
