In Eugene, Oregon, over 100 pet rats were discovered in two parked cars last month, prompting police involvement. Officers and animal welfare responded after the vehicles were towed on September 23. One car, a blue Saturn, had a tarp covering it and was found filled with rats, feces, trash, and minimal food and water. Additionally, more rats were located in a nearby gold Suburban.
The owner claimed to have rescued the rats and attempted to capture them using yogurt but faced difficulties. Ultimately, 52 rats were transported to the Greenhill Humane Society, where three of them gave birth to 18 babies shortly after their arrival. The cars were moved to a towing yard with the rats still inside, and animal welfare continued to provide necessary care until they could take in more rats. The investigation into potential neglect is ongoing.
