Japan made history by winning its first gold medal in sepaktakraw, defeating Indonesia 2-1 in the men’s quadrant final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. This victory marked Japan’s 73rd gold of the games, contributing to its largest medal haul since hosting in 1994. Coach Takeshi Terashima expressed immense pride in the achievement, emphasizing the collective effort behind it.
In addition to sepaktakraw, Japanese athletes excelled in other sports, with Misaki Tsunomori and Riho Sanematsu winning gold in the youth mixed dinghy sailing event, and Junya Nakanishi earning silver in archery’s men’s individual recurve, securing a spot for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Asian Games, featuring 43 sports, will conclude soon, marking Japan’s third time hosting the summer event.
