SYDNEY, Oct. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — For Australian travelers, Indonesia offers more than just a familiar getaway. From wellness and culture to marine exploration and heritage, the journey has the potential to transform known destinations into meaningful experiences.
Indonesia is committed to enhancing the quality of tourism by focusing on the travel experience, natural and cultural heritage, and the value it brings to local communities. Many Australians already see Indonesia as a go-to destination; now, they can explore it in a more personal, connected way.
The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia is embracing this shift with a new Quality Tourism strategy. This approach prioritizes niche experiences—such as marine tourism, gastronomy, wellness, luxury, and the arts—aiming to attract affluent travelers and promote longer stays, which benefits both destinations and local communities.
The initiative, branded “Go Beyond Ordinary,” encourages Australians to delve deeper into Indonesia. Destinations like Bali, Lombok, Labuan Bajo, and Borobudur offer a spectrum of experiences—from culture and wellness to nature and history—that can be explored more profoundly rather than merely as stops on a travel itinerary.
Bali, while a favored destination for Australian travelers, provides much more than its renowned beaches. Rice terraces, traditional villages, local rituals, and wellness experiences present unique ways to discover the island.
Lombok merges nature and Sasak culture, featuring marine adventures in the Gili Islands and nature-based activities on Mount Rinjani.
Moving eastward, Labuan Bajo reveals a marine treasure within the extraordinary underwater ecosystems of Komodo National Park, presenting opportunities for diving and snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life.
Borobudur adds a historical and spiritual element to the journey. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, a ninth-century Buddhist temple, showcases intricate relief panels and magnificent stupas.
Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, emphasized, “Quality Tourism is about forging a deeper connection between travelers and destinations. It encourages journeys that transcend mere sightseeing toward understanding and experiencing a place’s essence.”
For more personalized travel, the Ministry of Tourism has introduced MaiA (Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia), an AI-powered travel assistant available under the Tourism 5.0 program at indonesia.travel.
