The Washington man, Igor Lytvynchuk, charged for throwing a rock at an endangered Hawaiian monk seal, has had his travel restrictions relaxed. Initially confined to the Western District of Washington and limited travel to O‘ahu only for court purposes, Lytvynchuk can now travel throughout Washington for work. While he still needs court approval for O‘ahu travel, there are no longer restrictions regarding access to beaches or marine animals.
A trial date has been set for November 16, but Lytvynchuk’s attorneys have filed a motion to postpone it to 2027. They seek evidence from Delta Airlines regarding announcements made during his flight to Maui and have requested records from various agencies about previous monk seal investigations. The outcome of the postponement request will be determined at a hearing on October 13, which Lytvynchuk will not attend in person.
