Five of our longest-stay shelter dogs recently took a special trip to the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. Accompanied by foster parents and volunteers, they explored a new environment and got new profile photos, courtesy of Wren Louis Photography.
One of the dogs, Raya, is a 3-year-old brindle pit bull who’s been in our care since February. Despite her initial shyness, Raya is affectionate and enjoys spending time with people. Living in a foster home, she has received outstanding reviews. According to her foster parent, “Raya knows all the rules of being a good dog.” Sweet and gentle, she’s also house-trained and brings a playful energy that shines once she feels comfortable.
At the Arboretum, Raya explored the Madagascar Spiny Forest and showcased her posing skills along the path. We’re grateful to the Arboretum for allowing us to bring the dogs for this unique photo session, as pups are typically not allowed on the grounds.
Looking ahead, we have several exciting events coming up:
-
On October 10, we’ll return to the Arboretum for Barks and Boos, a dog-friendly event with food trucks, craft beer, and activities for dogs. Expect to see adoptable pups hoping to find their forever homes!
-
The same weekend, we’ll be at CatCon at the Pasadena Convention Center on October 10-11, featuring 200 adoptable cats and kittens.
-
On October 17, our fourth annual Wildlife Day will celebrate the local wildlife, offering activities and information from local experts about living harmoniously with nature.
We’re also thrilled to announce our “Home Sweet Homecoming” adoption promotion in partnership with Hill’s Pet Nutrition, waiving fees for all dogs over 40 pounds through October 4.
From Raya enjoying her day at the Arboretum to the buzz of CatCon, all these events contribute to our mission of creating a compassionate world for animals. Join us in the coming weeks, and visit pasadenahumane.org for more information.
