Protect Our Piece: A Cultural Art Installation at CultureCon
Event Overview
Experience Protect Our Piece, an innovative art installation, at CultureCon on October 3-4 in Brooklyn. This unique piece celebrates Black culture through a custom couch, hand-stitched with representations of Black joy, HBCUs, and more.
About the Installation
The concept originated from Danielle Young, inspired by her grandmother’s plastic-covered couch. It symbolizes the protection of valuable cultural heritage that resonates with many Black families. Collaborating with Chicago fiber artist Chelsea B., the couch has become a living archive where attendees can contribute their ideas for what aspects of Black culture should be protected next.
