Celebrity Traitors host responds to Richard E Grant’s surprising disclosure on the show.

Warning: The below article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for The Celebrity Traitors season 2 episode 1!

Richard E Grant’s excitement when selected as a Traitor in the second season of The Celebrity Traitors led to a shocking reveal where he admitted his role to the cast. During a questioning session led by Joe Lycett, Grant openly declared himself a Traitor, creating an awkward silence among the cast members. Some dismissed it as part of his humor, but others remained skeptical.

In a confessional, Grant expressed regret, stating, “Well, that may be the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life.” He realized that everyone would now be scrutinizing him. The production team’s reaction was one of disbelief, as executive producer Sarah Fay described feeling a mix of nausea and disbelief at such an unprecedented moment occurring so soon after the roundtable.

Fay emphasized their aim to keep the show fresh, stating, “Never in our wildest dreams did we think that we’d have a Traitor admit they were a Traitor five minutes after the roundtable.”

This moment is contrasted with last season’s show where Alan Carr nervously claimed he was a Faithful, something that went unnoticed. Jerry Hall defended Grant, asserting she couldn’t believe he was a Traitor due to his eccentric personality.

Reacting to the incident, Traitors Uncloaked host Ed Gamble noted it was akin to Grant landing a lead role and wanting to share his excitement immediately. The buzz within their group chat hinted at the chaos the moment created.

The second season of The Celebrity Traitors continues airing on Fridays at 8 PM on BBC One and iPlayer.
