Amanda Peet Discusses Breast Cancer Journey and Importance of Early Detection
Amanda Peet, the actress known for her role in Your Friends & Neighbors, recently shared her breast cancer experience in an interview on the Today show (Oct. 1). Diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer last fall, Peet emphasized the importance of recognizing warning signs for health issues.
Reflecting on her health, Peet, 54, expressed gratitude for her recovery, notably after receiving a clear scan in January. She disclosed her diagnosis in a March essay for The New Yorker, revealing that a routine scan in August 2025 led to the discovery of a tumor. While an MRI showed a second, benign tumor, Peet recognized changes in her breasts six months prior to her diagnosis.
She described the moment of realization, noting a distinctive feeling in her tissue. Common symptoms of breast cancer can include lumps, changes in the nipple, or skin abnormalities, as outlined by the Mayo Clinic.
Peet underwent treatment involving a lumpectomy and radiation. In reflecting on her decision to speak publicly about her health struggles, she mentioned it served as a coping mechanism. Her friend and costar, Olivia Munn, who has faced similar challenges, commended Peet for shining a light on the importance of early detection in saving lives.
Peet’s openness encourages women to prioritize their health and seek timely medical advice.
