New Metal Fabrication Plant Coming to McDuffie County
THOMSON, Ga. – Governor Brian Kemp announced that Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) will establish a new metal fabrication plant in McDuffie County, projected to create approximately 140 jobs and involve an investment of around $26 million over several years.
MEC, founded in 1945, will set up its facility in an existing building located at 1048 Superior Way in Thomson. The refurbishment of the site will occur in phases, with equipment installation and renovations scheduled over the coming years. Workforce expansion is anticipated to commence in 2026.
MEC offers a variety of services, including prototyping, tooling, production fabrication, aluminum extrusion, coating, assembly, and aftermarket support. Its clientele includes industries such as commercial vehicles, data centers, construction, agriculture, and powersports.
Jag Reddy, MEC President and CEO, highlighted that Georgia’s skilled workforce and robust economic development efforts were pivotal in their decision to locate in the state. Reddy expressed enthusiasm for hiring locally in McDuffie County.
Local officials view the project as a significant validation of McDuffie County’s strategy to attract advanced manufacturing. Chase Beggs, Chairman of the McDuffie County Commission, stated that the plant illustrates the area’s workforce strengths and business environment, providing opportunities for both current and future workers.
Steve Dwyer, Chairman of the Thomson-McDuffie Industrial Development Authority, referred to the investment as a “tremendous opportunity” that will enhance the county’s industrial base and foster long-term economic advantages.
MEC will be hiring for various roles, including management, technical, machine operators, and quality control positions. Interested job seekers can find more information on MEC’s careers page: MEC Careers.
