Macau Gaming Sector Experiences Minor Drop Despite Recent Developments

Macau’s Gaming Scene: Recent Developments

Acres Entertainment has recently received approval to operate as a gaming machine manufacturer in Macau, marking a significant milestone in the region’s gaming industry.

September Gaming Revenue Decline

Despite a surge in summer activity, Macau’s gaming revenue saw a 1.2% year-on-year drop in September, totaling MOP18.1 billion. This decline not only fell short of growth expectations but also marked the weakest monthly figure of 2026, as reported by AGB. Revenue also dropped sharply from August when demand was notably stronger.

Analyzing the Soft Patch

Analysts attribute this slowdown to a decrease in consumer spending following the excitement of the World Cup, compounded by tighter regulatory measures in the market. However, the first nine months of 2026 indicate a 3.2% increase in gaming revenue compared to the previous year, highlighting ongoing recovery.

The Growing Market

Macau continues to be a dynamic gaming market. Notably, Melco Resorts & Entertainment has begun welcoming guests to the REM Hotel at City of Dreams, with a full launch expected post-October’s Golden Week.

Additionally, Acres Manufacturing Company’s recent approval to manufacture gaming machines in Macau, effective until March 31, 2027, places the Las Vegas supplier firmly on the regulated list, enhancing the region’s gaming landscape.
