Animal of the Week: Introducing Scarlet!

Laredo Animal Protective Society Seeking Forever Home for Scarlet

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – The Laredo Animal Protective Society (LAPS) is on the lookout for a permanent home for Scarlet, a loving 1-year-old basset hound mix.

Sofi Juarez, the adoption coordinator at LAPS, shared that Scarlet is fully prepared for her new family—she’s spayed, microchipped, dewormed, vaccinated, and up to date on flea and tick prevention. Juarez describes Scarlet as a friendly dog who thrives on companionship: “She loves to meet new people and gets excited whenever someone opens the door. She’s very sociable and prefers not to be alone. Scarlet is also great with kids!”

In addition to adoptions, LAPS offers a foster program for those looking to assist without committing to adoption. Volunteer foster families provide temporary care for animals awaiting vaccinations and medical treatment, helping to ease shelter overcrowding. Recently, LAPS announced a need for foster placements for a litter of five puppies, typically placing two to three puppies per household to keep siblings together.

Volunteers are encouraged to join throughout the week, with shelter hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Wednesdays to Sundays. Interested volunteers must complete an application and attend a brief orientation.
