New Pet Pantry in Agawam Inspired by Local Teen Sisters
AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – A heartwarming initiative has arisen in Agawam, thanks to 16-year-old twin sisters, Angie and Marie Wells. Local pet owners now have access to a new pantry dedicated to supporting furry friends and other pets in need.
Community Support for Pet Owners
This innovative “Open Paw Pantry,” located by the Agawam Dog Park, offers essential supplies like food and toys for dogs and cats. Jaime Scott, a local pet owner, expressed gratitude for the pantry, especially for those struggling to afford pet supplies. “[It’s] the perfect place to get some, especially for a lot of the first timers with the pups,” he said.
From Personal Experience to Community Action
The Wells sisters, who are pet owners themselves, understand the challenges that come with caring for animals. They were inspired to help others in the community after relying on charitable organizations for their needs. “We wanted to help out the community and give back,” Marie shared.
With assistance from their uncle and a lot of hard work, they constructed the pantry, which aims to foster a supportive environment for pet owners. Onlookers have already begun to contribute to the pantry, making it a communal effort.
Encouraging Community Participation
Pantry users can donate items and note their contributions in a journal, facilitating a mutual support system. Scott mentioned he plans to donate old pet supplies, highlighting the positive impact the pantry has already made.
Grand Opening
The official grand opening for Wells’ Open Paw Pantry will take place at 1:00 p.m. on October 10. Community members are encouraged to participate by donating or retrieving supplies.
