Virgin Australia Expands Pets in Cabin Network
Virgin Australia has announced the expansion of its Pets in Cabin service to include flights between Cairns and Melbourne starting October 22, 2026. This initiative allows pet owners to bring their small cats and dogs onboard, catering to the growing demand for pet-friendly travel options.
Since the service’s launch in October 2025, over 2,000 pets have traveled with their owners. Bookings are now available for select services departing from Melbourne, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, and Cairns.
Quote from Andrew Cleary, Chief Customer Officer
“Bringing Pets in Cabin flights to Cairns means Aussies can now bring their four-legged companions on a getaway to one of Queensland’s most popular holiday destinations,” said Andrew Cleary.
He emphasized the benefits for both tourists and local businesses, highlighting the importance of pet inclusion in family travel:
“We know pets are part of the family, so for many Australians, being able to bring them along when they travel is really important… it means the whole family can enjoy the getaway together.”
