A significant auction of Impressionist and post-Impressionist art is set for November 18 in New York, featuring a collection valued at nearly $500 million. The artworks, previously unreleased, come from the late Argentine collector Nelly Arrieta de Blaquier and her husband Carlos Pedro Blaquier, including pieces by Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne.
Notable works include van Gogh’s “Châtaigniers en fleurs,” estimated at $180 million, and Cézanne’s “Arlequin,” valued at $120 million. Helena Newman from Sotheby’s expressed that it’s one of the most remarkable collections she has ever handled.
Art experts emphasize the collection’s legendary status due to its secrecy and the high caliber of its pieces. As collectors face uncertainty, demand for such masterpieces remains strong, with potential buyers expected from various economic backgrounds globally.
