Placer County resort aims to introduce surf and skate culture to the interior.

Placer County Surf Resort: Bringing Surf and Skate Culture Inland

Developers are set to transform part of the Placer One development in Placer County into a unique five-acre surf lagoon, hotel, and action-sports destination, with construction anticipated to begin in 2027.

The Alchemy Surf Resort, proposed by Inland Surf Company, has already navigated the county’s planning and review process. Facilities will include spas, cold plunges, indoor skate parks, and an outdoor skate plaza, aiming to create a new recreational hotspot for the region.

Community Excitement

Jordan Bunnell, owner of Railyard Skate Shop, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. He noted, “Growing up and going to Santa Cruz, loving the skate park there, I think it’s cool to bring the surf scene culture more inland.”

Project Overview

Once operational, the resort is expected to draw hundreds to thousands of visitors yearly. The developers plan to source water through the public system, taking into account water availability.

Bunnell highlighted the potential opportunities the resort may create for young people in the area, reinforcing the synergy between surf and skate cultures.

Employment and Future Plans

The project is projected to provide employment for hundreds of workers, needing about 205 workers on peak days. Construction is expected to take 18 to 24 months, with a potential opening in 2029.
