The Asian Student Union (ASU) hosted its inaugural Midautumn Fest at the United Methodist Church, bringing together various LSU student organizations and local vendors. Collaborating with groups like the Pakistani Student Association and the Indian Student Association, ASU showcased traditional Asian cuisine alongside popular local vendors.
The event drew significant attendance, prompting the need for a larger venue, according to ASU President Nhu Tran. Vendors included Pop’n Rouge, offering non-alcoholic “dirty sodas,” and Besteas Sip & Bite, featuring bubble tea and matcha drinks. Local foods also highlighted Laotian cuisine from So Lao, aiming to expand cultural awareness through food.
Besides food, student-owned boutiques like Market on Mars promoted second-hand merchandise, addressing concerns about fast fashion. Attendees appreciated the cultural exchange, citing the festival as a welcome break from academic pressures.
Tran emphasized the significance of such events for fostering community and cultural understanding at LSU, inviting students to connect and learn about Asian culture.
