Instructor Shares Passion for Hispanic Culture at Concord University

ATHENS, WV — Concord foreign language instructor Kyle Moore describes his teaching journey in Athens with just three words: “the world did.” Originally from Ohio, Moore’s fascination with Hispanic culture blossomed during his time as an exchange student, inspired by a high school teacher.

His travels have taken him to vibrant regions like Argentina and Chile, but a significant event brought him back to the U.S. in 2018. While living in Nicaragua, protests erupted and he found himself amidst chaos, stating, “We can smell the tear gas.” Despite this tumultuous experience, Moore returned with a passion for sharing foreign language and culture.

In his office, numerous cultural artifacts reflect the diverse backgrounds he’s encountered. Moore emphasizes the beauty of different cultures, encouraging his students to learn not only to appreciate others, but also to cultivate pride in their own heritage. He believes culture is a shared human experience, stating, “Culture belongs to everyone.”

Currently, Moore inspires the next generation of Concord Mountain Lions, urging students to step outside their cultural confines. His message? Embrace the unfamiliar: “People are thrilled to share their culture. So go for it—stick your toe in, jump right in. You won’t regret it.”
