Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) Announces Major Supply Agreement with Fujikura for HTS Tape
Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), a leader in fusion energy, has forged a significant long-term supply contract with Fujikura Ltd. This partnership involves Fujikura’s investment in expanding its production capabilities to deliver over 10,000 km (3 GA-m) of High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) tape. This tape will be essential for the commercial rollout of CFS’ ARC power plants, with the agreement marking the largest of its kind for HTS tape, critical for the supply chain of ARC power plants.
CFS’s commitment to purchase HTS tape aims to support the first grid-scale plant at Fall Line Fusion Power Station in Virginia. Bob Mumgaard, CEO of CFS, emphasized this agreement as a step towards fulfilling manufacturing priorities as preparations for the ARC plant’s execution intensify.
Fujikura’s expanded role underscores its significance as a key supplier for the anticipated future of commercial fusion energy. CEO Naoki Okada highlighted the company’s dedication to sustaining long-term energy solutions.
In closing, this agreement not only propels the construction of ARC power plants but also reinforces U.S.-Japan collaboration in creating a robust industrial ecosystem for commercial fusion energy.
