People traveled by bike, train, and car to enjoy the Plains Peanut Festival parade on September 26. Miss Georgia Sophia Wootten rode in the parade, reveling in the small-town atmosphere. “This is my first time in Plains. I’m learning so much history about Georgia, which is awesome as Miss Georgia, and our nation as well, and I think it’s so fun,” she expressed.
Wootten also visited the gravesite of former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, calling it beautiful. She explored downtown Plains, saying, “We got to walk around some of the local shops and meet the small business owners, which was amazing.”
The parade featured former members of the White House Communications Agency, who provided communication support to the President in the White House and abroad. A highlight of the event was the tractors, which brought joy to children when those aboard a peanut wagon tossed candy into the crowd.
Elaine Hogsed, who traveled from Lee County to attend the parade, said her favorite moment was seeing the National Guard. “I’m originally from Plains, so it’s like coming home,” she shared.
