Wrexham’s Racecourse stadium has seen a new chapter with the purchase of The Turf pub by celebrity co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. This acquisition aims to safeguard the club’s heritage, as The Turf was where Wrexham AFC was founded in 1864. Reynolds and McElhenney emphasized that owning The Turf aligns with their strategy to protect the club’s interests. The pub has gained notoriety through its appearances in the popular docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham,” featuring visits from celebrities like Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd, as well as a memorable moment with Prince William pouring a pint.
Wayne Jones, the pub’s landlord, will continue to manage The Turf, promising to preserve its unique atmosphere and legacy while serving the community and fans.
