Nor’easter Poses Travel Disruptions and Power Outages in New England – NBC Boston

New England is getting ready for a long-duration nor’easter set to hit this weekend, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain, and possible flooding. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has advised coastal residents to prepare for the storm, which is unusual for this early in the fall.

Heavy rain amounts could reach up to six inches, with winds gusting up to 60 mph, especially in coastal areas. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and monitor weather updates. Public works have cleared catch basins in preparation, and local emergency services are on high alert.

Power companies, Eversource and National Grid, are actively managing vegetation around power lines to minimize outages. Citizens are reminded to check their emergency kits, ensure flashlights work, and charge essential devices.

Travel disruptions are expected, particularly for the MBTA, where service might be affected due to flooding and high winds. Ferry services on various routes have already been canceled or modified.

Local officials are on standby, and residents should stay indoors during the storm’s peak. With preparations underway, state agencies and local communities are coordinating efforts to minimize damage and ensure public safety during this weather event.
