A third-year junior secondary student in Macau was injured in a classroom incident involving an unsharpened butterfly knife. The altercation occurred around 11 am at a secondary school in Zona Norte. The confrontation arose from personal animosity between two boys, linked to previous online discussions about video games, where one had mocked the other.
Tensions escalated when the suspect, a transfer student, reacted aggressively after his classmate bumped into his chair. What began as a verbal dispute quickly turned physical. The suspect brandished the butterfly knife, approximately 11 centimeters long, attacking his classmate and causing facial and neck injuries.
Teachers and fellow students intervened to break up the fight, and the school’s administration alerted the Youth Concern Group under the Judiciary Police. The injured student was treated at a local hospital and discharged the same day.
The suspect, during police questioning, stated he had bought the knife for performance demonstrations and accidentally brought it to school. He is now facing charges, including simple assault and possession of a prohibited weapon. The Judiciary Police have urged young people to resolve conflicts peacefully, emphasizing non-violence and open communication, and encouraging those facing bullying to seek help from trusted adults. Parents are also reminded to stay involved in their children’s lives to promote law-abiding behavior.
