Dolly Parton collaborated with Bono on a song prior to her passing.

On Friday, California will celebrate Dolly Parton Day in memory of the beloved country icon, who passed away in August at age 80. One of her last recordings, a duet with Bono titled “Torn,” is set to feature on U2’s forthcoming album, Carnaval de Luz, releasing on November 13. Bono shared how Parton bravely recorded the song despite her illness, expressing disbelief at her vocal prowess at 80.

Parton initially declined Bono’s request to collaborate on a side project steeped in Irish folk music; however, she offered her song “Torn,” which Bono and Johnny McDaid then reworked. Parton approved the final mix, and her joy was evident, as she found pride in the recording.

In a celebration of her legacy, a newly restored version of 9 to 5 will be released in theaters for a week starting October 9, with proceeds benefiting the Dollywood Foundation and her Imagination Library. This initiative coincides with “Give Like Dolly Day,” established to inspire acts of kindness in her honor.
