Charges have been dropped against the owner of Waggles Pet Resort in Wheeling, following the death of Miller, a family dog, who was left in a hot van for seven hours. The Serota family reported that Miller was usually taken from their home to the resort three times a week. On September 2, he was picked up but not released from his crate, leading to his death in high temperatures. Although owner Ross Niehaus was initially charged with cruelty, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office found insufficient evidence to prove criminal responsibility, resulting in the dropping of charges.
