The State Council Commission on Culture and Traditional Spiritual and Moral Values held an important meeting during the St Petersburg International United Cultures Forum. This gathering aimed to prepare for a forthcoming State Council meeting in December, focused on preserving Russia’s diverse historical and cultural heritage, encompassing both tangible and intangible values.

The meeting was chaired by Mikhail Razvozhaev, the Governor of Sevastopol, and attended by various officials, including Presidential Aide Alexei Dyumin, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, and Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, as well as representatives from the Federation Council, State Duma, and cultural institutions.

Key topics discussed included the development of the restoration industry and archival affairs, emphasizing the importance of historical memory and traditional values for national security and sovereignty, as stated by Dyumin. He highlighted the critical role specialists in restoration and archival work play in maintaining historical continuity and preserving evidence from various eras.

Golikova stressed that investment in human capital is essential for Russia’s evolution as a social state. Lyubimova reported ongoing efforts to restore cultural monuments, noting that over 163,000 heritage sites exist in Russia, thanks to the collaboration of professionals.

Razvozhaev underscored the necessity of intergenerational continuity in cultural heritage preservation, expressing concern that future generations might not recognize such heritage as part of their identity. He questioned what cultural memory would be passed down and its significance to future generations, asserting that the essence of heritage lies in human connection and understanding.
