Volkswagen Introduces AirConsole In-Car Gaming Platform for 2027 Models
Volkswagen of America is set to launch N-Dream’s AirConsole in-car gaming platform on select 2027 vehicles, marking a significant step in in-vehicle entertainment. This initiative makes Volkswagen the first major automotive brand in the U.S. to offer such a gaming experience, although sibling brand Audi has been featuring in-motion gaming for over a year, with BMW joining the trend two years ago.
AirConsole allows occupants to enjoy multiplayer games directly on the car’s infotainment display, using their smartphones as game controllers while parked. With a starting library of 20 games, including classics like Pac-Man Championship Edition, UNO Car Party, and Tetris, the platform aims to create engaging shared experiences.
Volkswagen emphasizes the importance of these moments, as CMO Rachael Zaluzec states, “In-vehicle gaming helps turn everyday moments into shared experiences.” The gaming experience extends to select vehicles, including the Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, Golf GTI, Golf R, and ID. Buzz, linked through the myVW app.
The platform also offers ambient lighting integration, enhancing the gaming experience with responsive interior lighting. Unique Volkswagen-themed content is part of the lineup, featuring customized versions of popular games.
AirConsole is available as part of Volkswagen’s premium connected services, which includes a Wi-Fi hotspot and premium navigation. New owners can enjoy a complimentary subscription for three months to one year, depending on the vehicle model, after which a $149 annual subscription is required for continued access.
