Purina Hager City Supports Domestic Abuse Survivors and Their Pets
HAGER CITY — Purina Hager City invites local pet owners to participate in the Purple Leash Project to support domestic abuse survivors and their pets. From September 1 to November 15, 2026, Purina will donate five cents from every purchase of specially marked packages to RedRover, with a total donation cap of $500,000.
The Purple Leash Project, a collaboration between Purina and RedRover, aims to create more safe spaces for domestic abuse survivors and their pets. Research shows that nearly half of domestic abuse survivors postpone leaving their situations because they cannot take their pets along. Yet, only 20% of domestic violence shelters in the U.S. accept animals. The project seeks to make shelters more pet-friendly by providing grants and resources for facility improvements, supplies, and veterinary care.
Robinson Galvao, factory manager at Purina Hager City, stated, “This initiative allows pet owners in our community to contribute to a cause our associates champion every year simply by purchasing specially marked Purina products.”
Specially marked Purple Leash Project packs can be found at participating retailers nationwide, including popular brands like Purina Beneful, Busy Bone, Cat Chow, Fancy Feast, Pro Plan, Tidy Cats, and Friskies Party Mix. Every qualifying purchase aids in supporting the efforts of Purina and RedRover to provide safety for survivors and their beloved pets.
To date, the Purple Leash Project has awarded over $2 million in grants to 62 domestic violence shelters across the country. Additionally, Purina volunteers have contributed more than 2,500 hours to renovate shelters and make them pet-friendly.
