Pet Owner Facing Deportation Writes an Emotional Note for Her Cat’s Future Caregiver

On a quiet Sunday morning in Queens, New York, a volunteer from Puppy Kitty NYCity (PKNYC) discovered a cat carrier left on the shelter’s porch. Inside was a tabby cat named Mia, who was in a heart-wrenching situation. A note taped to the carrier revealed her owner was being deported and had no one else to care for her.

The note explained, “I can’t leave her out on the street. Her name is Mia. She doesn’t get along with other cats, but she loves Churu.” It was apparent that Mia’s owner had deeply loved her, even amid their own turmoil.

Mia’s note also mentioned possible bladder issues, showing the owner’s concern despite their challenging circumstances. After a thorough checkup, staff found Mia to be generally healthy, but emotionally, she was understandably traumatized and shut down.

PKNYC staff are working hard to help Mia feel safe again, using her favorite Churu treats to establish trust. However, the shelter environment, filled with other cats, has made this recovery difficult. They are seeking a foster home where Mia can decompress in a quiet space.

The shelter’s team is committed to giving Mia the best possible life, ensuring her owner’s love and sacrifice is honored. They’re currently looking for a foster home for her, hoping to help her heal emotionally and find stability once more.
