John DeBacker, a dedicated cat rescuer, has become a hero for a Long Island family after rescuing their cat, Lola, who was trapped behind a wall for about five days. Lola had gone missing during the family’s move from their second-floor apartment in Franklin Square. DeBacker and his team initially set traps but faced challenges as Lola avoided them, eventually falling behind a first-floor wall and becoming weak.
After a week of searching and losing hope, DeBacker, with the help of a contractor, managed to cut into the wall quietly to avoid scaring Lola further. Remarkably, they saw her through an endoscopic camera and, after careful maneuvering, DeBacker successfully pulled her out. The moment she was freed was met with relief and joy, described by DeBacker as the greatest feeling in the world.
Following the rescue, Lola was taken to an emergency vet and, although she is safe, she has been struggling with her appetite. DeBacker cautioned cat owners to secure their pets before moving, as the process can frighten them into hiding.
