Nolan Gessing and the Eisenhower football team travel to Cambridge Springs tonight for a non-region matchup at 7.
The Eisenhower Knights have shown notable improvements over the last two weeks, coming off a tough loss to Corry and a narrow one-point overtime defeat against Seneca. They aim to build on this momentum as they prepare for a challenging road game against the undefeated Cambridge Springs Devils.
The Knights (0-4, 0-3) will face a formidable opponent in Cambridge Springs (4-0, 2-0), a team renowned for its experienced lineup. Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley acknowledges the challenge:
“They are a very well-coached team that every year is vying for the district playoffs.”
Cambridge Springs boasts a talented trio of running backs: junior Wyatt Keem, who has rushed for 447 yards and four touchdowns, senior Jon Daley with 325 yards and three touchdowns, and senior Kaydin McFarren with 168 yards and two touchdowns. Penley highlights their capability:
“Just a talented group of hard running guys who each have the ability to score every time they have the ball.”
Eisenhower’s offense has begun to find its rhythm, led by senior quarterback Joe Gigliotti and star running back Nolan Gesing. Gigliotti has thrown for 280 yards with two touchdowns and has rushed for 265 yards. Gesing has been particularly impressive, racking up 418 yards across 69 carries and three touchdowns, along with averaging 15.4 yards per reception.
Despite the game not impacting regional standings due to realignment, it carries significant weight as these teams have a long-standing rivalry, marked by thrilling encounters in the past.
Penley knows what’s at stake:
“They play very disciplined football. They have a big, dominant line and a tremendous group of running backs. In order for us to be successful, we must control the line of scrimmage and slow down their run game.”
Tonight’s game kicks off at Cambridge Springs High School at 7 PM.
