Hannah Einbinder and Susan Sarandon Detained During Demonstration Against Netanyahu

Hannah Einbinder and Susan Sarandon were among over 100 people arrested in New York City during a protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s appearance at the U.N. General Assembly. The demonstration, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, saw participants chanting “Netanyahu out of New York!” as Einbinder, a vocal critic of Israel’s actions in Gaza, was taken into custody.

Other notable figures in attendance included Cynthia Nixon, Elliot Page, and musicians Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. While Netanyahu spoke at the U.N., he faced a mixed reaction from attendees, prompting him to address those who walked out. He denied claims of genocide in Gaza and defended Israel’s military actions.

The Israel-Hamas conflict has led to significant casualties, with reports indicating massive loss of life on both sides since the conflict escalated. Ahead of the assembly, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani called Netanyahu a “war criminal” and mentioned an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court, although he acknowledged that city authorities could not enforce it.

Protesters continued to voice their demands for justice, chanting slogans like “Free Palestine” and expressing their commitment to bring global attention to the situation.
