Eric Darius: A Blend of Classics and New Music
The saxophonist mixes longtime favorites and new music
Eric Darius is set to ignite The Birchmere on September 25 with a vibrant performance, promising an unforgettable 90-minute journey that intertwines his hit songs with fresh material from his upcoming album.
“Expect a high-energy, action-packed show filled with many of my hits and new tracks,” Darius explains. To achieve this balance, he plans to use medleys to revisit earlier career milestones while introducing his latest creations, including chart-toppers like “Too Good 2 Let Go” and “Maputo Nights.”
Darius describes “Maputo Nights” as a song birthed from his transformative trip to Maputo, Mozambique, where diverse influences shaped his artistry. “I wanted to capture the essence of my experience in one song,” he shares, blending Afrobeat with Mozambican and Portuguese sounds.
With a musical vision like a “blank canvas,” Darius continually seeks to reinvent his sound, drawing from a rich tapestry of genres. He believes each album reflects his personal growth, marked by a journey that began in his childhood. By launching SagiDarius Music nearly ten years ago, he gained creative freedom, reminiscent of musical pioneers like Prince.
The intimate setting of The Birchmere offers Darius a unique opportunity to engage closely with his audience, enriching the emotional connection during his performances. He values the shared experience, viewing each show as a chance to inspire joy and hope in his listeners.
