Duke Energy has been awarded $50 million from the U.S. Department of Energy, as announced on September 24. This funding, part of the Speed to Power through Accelerated Reconductoring and other Key Advanced Transmission Technology Upgrades (SPARK) program, will enhance grid reliability and infrastructure in the Carolinas, particularly targeting high-growth regions like Greenville and Spartanburg Counties in South Carolina.
Scott Batson, Duke Energy’s executive vice president and chief power grid officer, emphasized the importance of strategic investments to meet evolving energy needs sustainably and economically. Additional transmission upgrades will also take place in Henderson and Polk Counties in North Carolina.
The funds will help cover some of the costs associated with advanced transmission upgrades, ultimately benefiting customers by reducing their expenses. For further details, you can visit Duke Energy’s website.
