Mayor Mike Morris has advised residents to remain indoors and off the roads to ensure safety.
In an update on Thursday evening, Morris stated that “police and fire departments are actively assisting stranded motorists and residents affected by flooding.” He mentioned that Public Works crews have barricaded numerous streets due to unsafe travel conditions.
The City of Clovis has released a list of road closures due to the flooding. Officials are urging caution, as the National Weather Service highlights that flooding is a leading cause of death during thunderstorms. The CDC reports that over half of flood-related drownings involve vehicles driving into hazardous water.
To stay safe, officials remind the public: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
