The Bank of England’s Governor Andrew Bailey expressed concerns about high energy prices impacting the central bank’s ability to maintain its current interest rate stance. Speaking at the Monetary Economics Conference at Oxford, he indicated that while the Bank Rate has not been increased, it may soon become more challenging to keep it unchanged if energy prices remain elevated. Bailey noted that the Bank cannot wait too long for more evidence regarding the impact of these prices on inflation expectations, although he characterized the current evidence as “quite subdued.”
