Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected a proposal from Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks in Moscow, stating he would only go there “on a missile.” This response came during a press interaction at the UN General Assembly, where Zelensky used a Russian expletive to emphasize his stance.
The clip of his remark has circulated widely, with Russian media censoring the expletive. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova mocked Zelensky, hinting at fears for his safety if he were to travel to Moscow.
Zelensky also met with U.S. President Donald Trump during the UN General Debate to discuss efforts to end the ongoing war, which started in February 2022. While he has expressed a desire to negotiate with Putin, he refuses to meet in Moscow due to security concerns and to avoid appearing to concede to Russian demands.
