Westminster College to Conclude Its Celebrity Concert Series

Farewell to an Iconic Program

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – For 59 seasons, the Westminster College Celebrity Series has been a celebrated staple in Orr Auditorium, showcasing a blend of music, comedy, theater, and other forms of live entertainment. This cherished series will conclude after its final performance on April 24.

Launched in 1967 as part of Westminster’s artist-lecture series, the decision to end the program follows the retirement of longtime Celebrity Series Director Connie McGinnis. McGinnis has been integral to the series since 1997, when she started as box office manager. She eventually became director in 2012, succeeding Gene DeCaprio who led the program for 22 years before passing away in 2024.

Reflecting on the decision to conclude the series, McGinnis stated, “Although it is sad to say goodbye to such a wonderful program, I assure you it is the best decision for Westminster College.” She cited changing audience dynamics and rising costs of bringing in national performers as significant factors.

Over the years, the Celebrity Series has featured a wide array of artists, including legends like Paul Anka, Tony Bennett, and Judith Collins. McGinnis particularly recalls a memorable concert by trumpeter Chris Botti, emphasizing her pride in bringing lesser-known yet talented performers to the stage.

The program has not only fostered a love for the arts but has also created a sense of community among its patrons. Long-standing relationships have been built among attendees, many of whom make attending performances a tradition with family and friends. McGinnis hopes the series will be remembered for the world-class talent it showcased and the joy it brought to its audience.

Looking ahead, the 2026-27 Celebrity Series season will feature acts like Three Dog Night, The Barricade Boys, and others leading up to its final performance. Season subscriptions and individual tickets are available online or by contacting the box office.

Performances to Look Forward To:

  • Three Dog Night – Sept. 26
  • The Barricade Boys – Oct. 13
