Mountain Line Transit Authority and MATA commit to cleaner diesel bus technology.

The Mountain Line Transit Authority (MLTA) and Memphis Area Rapid Transit (MATA) are both enhancing their fleets with environmentally friendly buses.

### MLTA Showcases New Propane Buses
On September 17, MLTA unveiled five new ROUSH CleanTech propane light-duty buses in Morgantown, W.Va. MLTA CEO Maria Smith emphasized the agency’s commitment to eco-friendly choices in public transport and highlighted the benefits of propane as a clean fuel source. An onsite propane station was installed at no cost by Ferrellgas, allowing for significant fuel savings—about 40% less than gasoline and 50% less than diesel. The propane buses are noted for their cold-weather performance and have a range exceeding 350 miles per fueling.

### MATA Selects ENC for Clean Diesel Buses
Meanwhile, MATA has contracted ENC to deliver 32 AXESS® 40-foot clean diesel buses, aimed at replacing older vehicles and enhancing service reliability in Memphis. MATA is undergoing a substantial fleet renewal, addressing the need for modern, dependable transit options. With many buses exceeding 500,000 miles and over a decade old, this investment is part of a broader strategy to improve the transit system. MATA Trustee Rodrick Holmes and Memphis Mayor Paul Young both expressed the importance of these new buses for the community’s transit future.
