Art in Public Spaces Exhibition: “175 | Land, People, Culture”
Event Overview:
Nevada County Arts & Culture, in partnership with the County of Nevada, will host the Art in Public Spaces exhibition “175 | Land, People, Culture.” The community is invited to the opening reception on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. This event takes place at the Government Center in Nevada City.
Exhibition Highlights:
- “175” is a two-part exhibition featuring the work of over 30 local artists, celebrating the 175th anniversary of Nevada County.
- It showcases a wide range of 2D and 3D art, highlighting key historical dates, achievements, and notable events in Nevada County’s history, including contributions from local tribal history.
- Collaborations for the historical aspect involve the Nevada County Historical Society and HUṠWEJ (formerly CHIRP).
Call for Artists:
Artworks were selected through an open call, encouraging artists to reflect on:
- The meaning of being a Nevada County resident
- What makes the county unique
- Influences of local stories, people, nature, and history on county identity
From 188 submissions, 33 artworks were selected along with tribal member artworks from HUṠWEJ’s Visibility Through Art collection.

Curation Process:
The Nevada County Board of Supervisors initially scored the submissions, ensuring a diverse representation of the county’s rich history and culture.

The artworks, alongside historical highlights, offer a thoughtful celebration of Nevada County’s past and present. This initiative aims to foster civic pride, express community values, and elevate awareness through art.
