Bellaire Culture and Arts Board Introduces Two Logo Designs | Bellaire – Meyerland – West University

The Bellaire Culture and Arts Board is currently seeking community feedback on two refined design concepts for a new city logo. This follows an earlier round of feedback that led to these updated designs, showcased to the City Council on September 21. The Council unanimously agreed to advance these concepts for a 30-day public comment period, which will last until October 21.

### Background
The initiative for a new logo and entryway markers stems from a strategic plan adopted by Bellaire officials in May. The Arts Board initially focused on the entryway markers but recognized the need for a distinctive city logo to enhance Bellaire’s public image and represent its community character.

After researching historical logos and gathering initial resident input, the Arts Board presented a design concept in June, which was approved with a request for further community feedback for refinement. The City Council has allocated up to $25,000 in the 2026-27 budget for professional branding support, ensuring a comprehensive brand standards guide for consistent logo application across various city platforms.

### Key Feedback from Residents
In gathering initial feedback, the Arts Board received 107 survey responses highlighting several preferences and concerns:
– Desire for elements like trees, oaks, green spaces, homes, families, and the Bellaire Water Tower.
– Discussion around the inclusion of the word “Texas” in the logo.
– Concerns about costs and implementation, as well as perceptions that the current designs seemed AI-generated or unfinished.
– The trolley was a focal point of discussion; while its historical significance was appreciated, there was a call for it to be contextualized within the broader community narrative.

### Design Process
In response to community input, the Arts Board worked with professional designers to create a design brief that guided the development of new logo concepts. This brief was utilized in a design contest on the 99designs platform, leading to over 300 submissions at a cost under $1,900, funded by previous community events rather than taxpayer money.

### Next Steps
The two concepts presented include one focusing solely on the trolley and another that integrates the trolley into a more comprehensive environmental setting reflective of Bellaire. Residents can provide feedback on these concepts through a dedicated submission page until October 21. After the feedback period, the Arts Board will assess the community input and make recommendations to the City Council, although a final logo has not yet been adopted.

This project represents a collaborative effort to enhance Bellaire’s identity while ensuring community voices are heard in the decision-making process.
