Thrive City at Chase Center Transforms into a Permanent, Alcohol-Fueled Entertainment Hub

Thrive City at Chase Center is now a full-time entertainment zone, allowing adults over 21 to carry open containers of alcohol outdoors daily from 11 am to 10 pm. This change follows the example of Valencia Street, which initially had partial open-container rules.

Originally, Thrive City had fluctuating open-container regulations based on events, causing confusion. Since its opening in 2019, Thrive City has hosted over 200 community events yearly, such as pickleball tournaments and farmers markets.

Popular spots in the plaza include Splash sports bar, Harmonic Brewing, and Che Fico Pizzeria. Co-owner Andy Chun noted that the new designation could emulate European outdoor dining experiences, enhancing atmosphere and attracting more customers.

Anne Taupier from the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development praised the move for boosting local businesses and economic growth. San Francisco now has over 30 entertainment zones, with many businesses reporting increased sales during such events.

Valencia Street was the city’s first full-time entertainment zone, starting with five days a week before expanding to seven days, even without festivals. Other zones host various events, including night markets and cultural festivals featuring live music and food vendors.
