Jeff Landry reveals funding initiative to strengthen roofing.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry Announces Major Investment in Roof Fortification Program

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana is significantly enhancing its commitment to fortifying roofs across the state. Governor Jeff Landry has announced the allocation of $20 million to the Louisiana Office of Community Development’s Restore Resilient Opportunities for Overhead Fortification program. This initiative aims to help residents strengthen their roofs against severe weather.

This program builds on existing efforts to promote fortified roofing across the state. The Louisiana Department of Insurance currently oversees the state’s Fortified Roof Program, which has already invested $80 million to bolster roof resilience.

Landry explained that the funding sources include redirected federal disaster recovery resources, Hurricane Katrina and Rita bond funds, as well as legislative appropriations. He highlighted the financial benefits for homeowners, stating, “Those who install fortified roofs are seeing insurance premiums decrease by 22 percent on average.”

To date, over 5,500 homeowners have received grants through this program, while 48,000 others have entered the lottery for opportunities to benefit from these initiatives.
