Milan Fashion Week Highlights Diesel’s Body-Positive Message
Glenn Martens, the creative director of Diesel, showcased a bold and body-positive collection during Milan Fashion Week, marking the end of his transformative tenure with the brand.
The provocative runway show featured a striking set bathed in red light and included models moaning in playful revelry to the disco classic “Love to Love You Baby.” Martens described the show as “experimental,” emphasizing the brand’s commitment to celebrating body positivity and love.
The collection pushed boundaries with innovative textile designs, blending knitwear, denim, and leather. Notably, trompe l’oeil techniques created the illusion of luxurious materials, while shorts became incrementally shorter, culminating in daring styles. Laser-cut T-shirts evoked a carefree aesthetic reminiscent of a “walk of shame.”
Martens received a standing ovation during the finale, leaving Diesel after joining in 2020 but continuing his role with Maison Margiela. He reiterated Diesel’s ethos, stating, “we never pretended to be a luxury brand,” and highlighted the brand’s focus on community and alternative expressions of fashion.
